A STUDY OF TYPE “A” BEHAVIOR PATTERN IN ASSOCIATION WITH ALEXITHYMIA IN ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE

PRAVINA DEVCHAND CHAWARE

ABSTRACT

The population sample used for the study consisted of 150 participants, comprising 50 in the study group drawn from the OPD’s and 50 in the control group (from the general population) from Gadchiroli. Further 50 controls from the general population of Aurangabad were included to study alexithymia in broader context. The tools utilized included Jenkins Activity Survey (JAS-C) and Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and various descriptive and inferential statistics were applied. The outcome revealed a high prevalence (40%) of alexithymia in our study group. However the association of alexithymia with Ischemic heart disease was not clearly implied as the contrast of alexithymia between our study group and control group did not divulge any significant difference and inconsistently the occurrence in the control group was even higher. Further a comparison of the control group from Gadchiroli with that of Aurangabad revealed a highly significant difference. Thus, our study suggests that perpetual trauma and unending stress owing to current prevailing condition in Gadchiroli mutually with the presence of several kinds of mental disorders in a important segment of Gadchirolii population has rendered the entire population more susceptible to developing alexithymia. Additional, our findings did not reveal any association between Type A Behavior Pattern and Ischemic Heart Disease. This indicates a need for further elucidation of the precise role of personality types in producing and preventing Ischemic heart disease.

LOVE AND SEXUAL INFIDELITY IN TROILUS AND CRESSIDA

RUPESH SINGH

ABSTRACT

The cardinal theme of Troilus and Cressida is sexual infidelity. The Prologue of the play proclaims it as the pivotal subject of the play’s action. The discourse between love and war is made overt in the beginning lines of the play, asserted by Troilus himself: “Call here my varlet. I’ll unarm again. / Why should I war without the walls of Troy / That find such cruel battle here within?” (I.i.1-3). Troilus’s love for Cressida is depicted in dismally carnal terms. He asserts explicitly of the “monstrosity in love” and “that the will is infinite and the execution confined; that the desire is boundless and the act a slave to limit”, and Cressida reacts to him, “They say all lovers swear more performance than they are able, and yet reserve an ability that they never perform.”

Keywords:  love, lust, politics and sexual infidelity.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT, GENDER JUSTICE & THE EQUALITY CHALLENGES

RINKUBEN G. PRAJAPATI & DR. P. R. GAVLI

ABSTRACT

Women's Empowerment is the process in which women elaborate and recreate what it is that they can be, do, and accomplish in a circumstance that they previously were denied. Empowerment can be defined in many ways, however, when talking about women's empowerment, empowerment means accepting and allowing people (women) who are on the outside of the decision-making process into it. “This puts a strong emphasis on participation in political structures and formal decision-making and, in the economic sphere, on the ability to obtain an income that enables participation in economic decision-making.” Empowerment is the process that creates power in individuals over their own lives, society, and in their communities. People are empowered when they are able to access the opportunities available to them without limitations and restrictions such as in education, profession and lifestyle. Feeling entitled to make your own decisions creates a sense of empowerment. Empowerment includes the action of raising the status of women through education, raising awareness, literacy, and training. Women's empowerment is all about equipping and allowing women to make life-determining decisions through the different problems in society.

URMILA AS A PROMINENT CHARACTER IN MAITHILISHARAN GUPT’S ‘SAKET’

DR. ASHA ARORA

ABSTRACT

Maithilisharan Gupt (1886-1964), the national poet of India, wrote the Hindi literary work, ‘Saket’ in 1931. ‘Saket’ is a remarkable piece of poetry that is related to the great religious epic-‘Ramayana’. It centres on the characters of Ramayana.  It is written in 12 cantos but its ninth canto especially depicts the character of Urmila, the wife of Lakshman (the second son of King Dashrath of Ayodhya). In literal meaning, ‘Saket’ means Ayodhya city. Gupt’s ‘Saket’ narrates the events of Ramayana from Lakshman’s view point. It is written in dwipaada style (verses of two lines each). The work is magnificent for its use of imagery and exploration of emotions of some characters who were not given a sufficient space in the main narrative work of Ramayana. It expands a different experience to Ram’s Tale. The present paper reflects on Urmila’s character as how much it is useful in fulfilment of her husband’s promise for his brother’s(Ram) service.

Key Words- Saket, Exploration, Dwipadda, Narrative, Magnificent.
