A STUDY ON THE FUNCTIONS OF NON BANKING FINANCIAL COMPANIES (NBFC)

S. SHANKARII & DR. E. MUTHUKUMAR

ABSTRACT

Non-bank financial companies (NBFCs) are financial institutions that provide banking services without meeting the legal definition of a bank, i.e. one that does not hold a banking license. These institutions typically are restricted from taking deposits from the public depending on the jurisdiction. Nonetheless, operations of these institutions are often still covered under a country's banking regulations. The specific banking products that can be offered by NBFCs depends on the jurisdiction, and may include services such as loans and credit facilities, savings products, investments and money transfer services. In some jurisdictions, such as New Zealand, any company can engage in banking business, except they are not allowed to use the word bank in their name. A company can only call itself a bank if it is a registered as such with the nation's central bank.

VENGATESAN G.

ABSTRACT

Stress is a mental, emotional or physical reaction resulting from an individual’s response to environmental pressure and similar stimuli. It refers to pressures people feel in life. Hans’s selye, the father of stress, believes that stress is the spice of life and absence of stress is death. Different person are stressful situation in different ways. Stress has got a lot to do with the person’s attitude to start with and the next is the priority of things. Stress is additive and workplace stress can become cumulative with the one at home or vice versa thus each making the other worse. ANALYTICAL APPROACH TO THE ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS OF MAHASWETA’S FEMINISTIC WRITINGS

DR. PRAKASH NARAIN

ABSTRACT

Mahsweta Devi is Bengali writer and activist. Her writings in English are widely read and appreciated through translations by eminent critics and men of letters such as  Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Samik Bandyopadhyay & Kalpana Bardhan. She is remembered and respected as a crusader and  fighter against  injustice  specially to the tribal people who are  the oppressed, the exploited, the neglected and  the outcasts. Her fame lies in exposing the caste and gender problems, prevalent in the society. Her unique and realistic presentation of miserable Indian women, especially tribal ones touches her readers’ heart with the appeal of sympathy for them. She also wrote about women’s place in Indian society. Some of the characters in her stories are old women living in poverty, and some of them are exploited because of their lack of wealth; however, some of them are middle class (one of them is even college-educated). Regardless of their status, though, they all suffer some kind of mistreatment, whether it’s physical or mental abuse, but not all of them are willing to accept their fate. With the help of  the English translations of  her amazing main writings, I have endeavoured through this paper to search out  and analyze her concern for the condition of Indian women with their different  manner of opposing and protesting the injustice done to them by the privileged. She was honoured with various literary awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Award (in Bengali), Jnanpith Award and Ramon Magsaysay Award along with India's civilian awards Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan. Her name will definitely remain immortal for the service of humanity although she has left this mortal world in July of the current year. I pay heartily tribute to such a great writer and activist.

DIFFICULTY IN DEFINING ‘THE FEMININE’

DR. D. PARAMESHWARI

ABSTRACT

Women thinkers from Virginia Woolf to Helene Cixious have expressed difficulty in defining the feminine. Most feminists use ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ to represent social constructs and ‘female’ and ‘male’ to denote biological aspects of sexual differences. In this usage, ‘feminine’ represents nurture and ‘female’ nature

THE EFFICIENCY OF CEMENT INDUSTRY IN INDIA

DR. S. RAJAMOHAN & G. HUDSON ARUL VETHAMANIKAM

ABSTRACT

The raw materials needed to produce cement are generally extracted from limestone rock, chalk, shale and clay. The cement contents are calcium carbonate, silica, alumina, and iron ore. These raw materials are won from the quarry by either extraction or blasting. These naturally occurring minerals are then crushed through a milling process. Overall consumption of cement in India was reported by the Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA) at 135.6Mt in FY2006, a gain of just over 10 per cent over the previous year. Per capita cement consumption on this basis was around 120kg – still relatively low but growing steadily. In the eight months to November 2006, consumption grew 12.7 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.

LARGE CLASS SPOKEN ENGLISH TEACHING (SET) IN POSTCOLONIAL AND LPG INDIA: DIALECTICAL APPROACH

DR. GUNASEKHARAN DHARMARAJA

ABSTRACT

In a post colonial and LPG country like India SET is a culturally back grounded job.  Especially in post LPG-India, where education becomes a commodity, where a teacher meets a large class of 100+, a normal ‘1 to 1’ SET method will not work. Till state policies on education change, miracles should be carried out within this sphere of ‘1-100+’. My SET cum research (after the failure of age old conservative ‘1- small group’ SET for my students) forced me to go for some innovative methods to teach spoken English for a large group of students.  This paper will explore some possibilities of finding innovative methods and its results with the background of research carried out among MCC students.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL FREEDOM IN BUDDHISM

DR. CH. VENKATA SIVASAI

ABSTRACT

Buddhist psychology, simply put, is concerned with the alleviation of human suffering, distress, and dissatisfaction.  However, the Buddhist idea of suffering much broader than what is usually the focus of western psychology.  The notion of suffering includes the entire range of human dissatisfaction and anguish and not the clinical disorders described by psychiatry.  And it is also important to note that for the most part the Buddha is referring to emotional suffering rather than physical suffering, per se.  The emphasis is on the mental aspects of physical pain rather than the pain itself. The Buddha’s practical project of the understanding and relief of human anguish was also a potent counterforce to metaphysical speculation which the Buddha eschewed.  The pursuit of metaphysical, logical or theoretical issues for their own sake was avoided.  Such questions could not be answered and spending time on them simply distracted from the urgency of the message the Buddha wished to share.  This could also be understood as the Buddha’s advice to leave questions about the nature of the universe, matter, and reality to those disciplines equipped to study and addresses them (e.g., science).  The domain of science was the area of human endeavor which could answer such questions.  The Buddha was primarily concerned with the human mind and its activity.

EFFICIENT LOAD BALANCING ALGORITHMS FOR EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF RESOURCES IN CLOUD

R. DENIS & S. JOHN BOSCO

ABSTRACT

Cloud Computing is new emerging cost cutting service accessed via internet. It has become popular to provide various services to user such as multi-media sharing, on-line office software, game and on-line storage. It aims to share data, calculations, and service transparently over a scalable network of nodes. Since Cloud computing stores the data and disseminated resources in the open environment, the amount of data storage increases quickly. Therefore storage, load balancing is an important key issue in cloud computing. It would consume a lot of cost to maintain load information, since the system is too huge to timely disperse load. Load balancing is one of the main challenges in cloud computing which is required to distribute the dynamic workload across multiple nodes to ensure that no single node is overwhelmed. It helps in optimal utilization of resources and hence in improving the performance of the system. A few existing scheduling algorithms can maintain load balancing and provide better strategies through efficient job scheduling and resource allocation techniques  as well. This paper discusses some of the existing load balancing algorithms in cloud computing and also their contests. In order to gain maximum profits with optimized dynamic load balancing we propose a new balancing algorithm for smoother distribution and efficient utilization of resources.

TRANSFORMATIONAL GENERATIVE GRAMMAR AND COGNITIVE THEORY OF NOAM CHOMSKY – A THEORETICAL STUDY

R. VANITHA

ABSTRACT

Language policy and planning is a complex task that shapes and it influences in turn. In recognizing these complexities and realizing the possibilities into account in developing a language-in-education policy, Chomsky describes the goal of education as to produce human beings whose values are not accumulation and domination instead it is free association on equal terms. Thus, instead of setting standards or specific guidelines, Chomsky argues that "the value of education should be placed on students' critical thinking skills and the process of gaining useful and applicable knowledge".  And he pointed out that the society simply reduces education to the requirement of the market.   This paper studies the theoretical perspectives of Noam Chomsky’s views on transformational generative grammar and cognitive theory.

Key words:  Noam Chomsky, transformational generative grammar, cognitive theory.

AN OUTLINE ON GREEN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND ITS EXPORT MARKETING ENVIRONMENT

N. RAMAR & DR. C. K. MUTHUKUMARAN

ABSTRACT

Product development and tailoring is the best option to opt for buyer acceptance and customer expansion. Export market is the cluster of economic factor, political factor and cultural factor, erroneous understanding will cause business disaster. The study depicts complimentary evidence that, exporter have to develop product that matches market features to exist in international business. Designing production system for developed product in green way were found to produce better sustainability to environment and higher production and profit ratio comparably. It have been noticed considerable amount of investment at initial stage for implementation of green system, but over the time proved to be beneficial and better return on investment. The standard of living, dynamism and geography are unearthed to be important economic factor in export environment. Cultural environment are found to be adapted rather inherited through religion, social esteem, education and family playing a crucial role in customer buying pattern. Though law, rules and government differs from country to country, the findings recommended that, it is mandatory to make analyses on domestic and foreign market to which the goods are planned to be exported for better marketing. The study was made through exploratory research methodology using secondary data to identify the possibility of developing green product for the purpose of export and environmental strategies that could be adapted for better production and environmental sustainability.

EDUCATION IN GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS IN INDIA

DR. SHARMISTA

ABSTRACT

Quality in school education is a matter of concern in India. Under various articles of the Indian Constitution, free and compulsory education is provided as a fundamental right to children between the ages of 6 and 14.  While quantitatively India is inching closer to universal education, the quality of its education has been questioned particularly in its government run school system.India adopted a National Policy for Children in 1974, declaring children to be the nation’s most precious asset. The population of children in a country comprise its human resources of the future. The  social, economic and cultural growth development of any society or community hinges upon the quality of its human resources. There has, unfortunately come into existence, a big class and caste-divide coupled with a rural-urban divide in education, in terms of facilities and quality, which has serious social consequences and could lead to social upheaval. Schools in backward rural and tribal areas are the most neglected, and the standard of teaching deplorable. Most schools are miles away and largely inaccessible to the students.Even in other areas, schools to which children of the underprivileged have access are run by the State or local authorities. By and large, these have a poor record of performance.  There is a need to  implement a ‘quality package’ across the states in India that aims at improving the quality of curricula and classroom environment.Their should be a conscious and joint effort of all the stakeholders of education to alleviate the  prevailing problems of the government run schools in India.
