FEMINISTIC SENSIBILITY IN NAYANTARA SAHGAL’S NOVEL: THE DAY IN SHADOW

ABSTRACT

This paper tries to display the feministic approach of Nayantara Sahgal. Every novel of Sahgal is women – centric, which highlights the problems faced by women and also aware them of their emotional needs. In this novel Sahgal exposes the grief – stricken experience of divorced middle –age women. She is deeply anxious regarding the basic requirement of freedom for women. Simrit in this novel wants to land on her own feet and appreciate independence, assertiveness and self-assurance. Simrit’s desire for freedom and individuality compels her file for divorce. She does want to be recognized as her husband’s wife but by her own self. The novel represents the unpleasant creation of the male society. Thus, Sahgal presents a novel element to Indian English fiction through the investigation of the disturbed emotional response – a characteristic new Indian spectacle.

The Modernist and extremist in India have given a new direction to the struggle for freedom in India. Though the modernist helped to take Indian National Congress at the doorstep of general people. Modernist like Surendranath Banarjee, Gopalkrishna Ghokhale, Dadabhai Nauroji, Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade, Firojshaha Mehta, Dineshbhai Vachha etc who appealed to masses. Extremist became the amulet of the people. The Vang-Bhang Movement attracted the attention of masses. Which gave impedance to Home Rule Movement and Non-cooperation Movement. This research paper discuss about various facets of Swadeshi Movement in Political View.

TOWARDS AN EQUAL SOCIETY: THE ANTI-CASTE POLITICS OF RAMMANOHAR LOHIA

ABSTRACT

Rammanohar Lohia (1910-1967) was one of the principal figures of the socialist opposition in the Indian politics during the first two decades ofindependence. He was also a leading crusader against the caste system prevalent in the Indian society. Yet, he is almost a forgotten figure in today’s anti-caste politics and various Dalit movements. The present study is a brief attempt to engage with Lohia’s ideas about caste and his attempts to dismantle it.

Women  liberation  has digressed from the essential idea of uniformity of men and women and has come down scornfully  from individual comments to invalidate everything said or done by men. This  understanding of women rights will basically hinder the expected advance  and delay in wanted equity for half of the humanity. Woman right may be a respectable concept against dishonourable thought of separation on the grounds of sex.
