CREATIVE WRITING; NATURE AND SCOPE WITH SPECIAL REFRENCE TO ARNOLD’S POETRY

DR. POOJA KUMARI

ABSTRACT

The word “Creative writing” stands for “writing that expresses ideas and thoughts in an imaginative way”. It is the “art of making things up” or putting a creative splash on history, as in creative nonfiction. In another words, creative writing is any form of writing which is written with creativity of mind; fiction writing, poetry writing, creative nonfiction writing and more. The purpose is to express something, whether it is optimism, pessimism, expections or any sort of concept or view. rather than only giving information or inciting the reader to make an action beneficial to the writer, creative writing is written to entertain or educate someone, to spread awareness about something or someone, or to express one’s thoughts. As Matthew Arnold says – As a creative writing a poem is not meant to delight, it is meant to provide food to soul. He defines poetry “as a criticism of life under the condition fixed for such a criticism by the laws of poetic truth and poetic beauty”. For Arnold, poetry has a great role to play. In fact, he makes the moral purpose of poetry as the integral function. He says – “a poetry of revolt against moral ideas is a poetry of revolt against life, a poetry of indifference towards moral ideas in a poetry of indifference towards life”.

ASSESSMENT OF GROUND WATER QUALITY USING WATER QUALITY INDEX IN SAMASTIPUR DISTRICT

SAMITA SUMAN & DR. SMITA KUMARI

ABSTRACT

Ground water is only the source of fresh water for drinking. Water quality is tested for about 10 physico-chemical parameters of several water samples collected from various locations of Samastipur District. Water were collected at different sites along the Budhi Gandak belt from Pusa to Jitwarpur in Samastipur district of Bihar state during winter season (January and February) of 2018. Parameters such as pH, conductivity, TDS, DO, total hardness, alkalinity, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride as well as heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Fe and As have been studied. TDS of some samples exceeded the maximum permissible limit of WHO. The samples were analysed using Multiparameter Test Kit, which provide quick and easy water quality testing in the field. The combined effect of all parameters was expressed in terms of Water Quality Index (WQI). The data base obtained from water quality testing is used as attribute data base for preparation of thematic maps showing the spatial distribution of various water quality parameters. Thematic maps of the Water Quality Index were also developed.

CHANGING CONTOURS IN INDIAN WRITING: A CURRENT PERSPECTIVE

DR ARPIT KATIYAR

ABSTRACT

The strife towards the creation of a ‘new nation’ went hand and hand with the construction of a ‘new self’. The main motif was to put an end to the British Raj and the formation of a modern nation-state. Many biographies and autobiographies that were published during the colonial period are testaments of the fact that the creation of a ‘new nation’ should be seen as the manifestation of the creation of a ‘new individual’. The present time has brought many avenues before human race, and a human being is almost baffled in making a choice. In the same tone, in the twenty-first century India  the creative tension of Indian novelists in English  leads them to accept  a ‘glocalised’ situation where they get allured to the international charm but feel tortured by many a transcultural and commercial forces in the smooth sail of their vision. This juxtaposition results in creating an alternative  sub-cultural landscape which gets cemented in a neo-Indianness which on the one hand claims certain association with the icons like Che Guevara, Pentagon, and Hollywood, and on the other keeps a root intact in  re-making  a ‘Malgudi’of their own.

Keywords:  motif, glocalised, transcultural, Indianness.

BLACK WOMEN AND SEXUAL SUBJUGATION: CONSTRUCTS FROM ANNE MOODY’S COMING OF AGE IN MISSISSIPPI

MILIND RAJ ANAND

ABSTRACT

The evolution of human race had gone through the struggle of survival of one over the other and the suppression of one another against the other. Similar struggle has taken place between the two sexes- males and females, and over ages they have co-existed despite one trying to subdue the other. This has been a cross-continental, cross-racial and cross-cultural phenomenon. Female suppression has existed among Whites as well as among Blacks, among Africans as well as among Asians, among poor as well as among rich. This suppression has gradually been institutionalized, although there have been innumerable attempts to break through it and a demand of equality of life, livelihood and opportunity has existed/ demanded over time, which has come up as a challenge among the whites, blacks, coloured and others. This movement of anti-subjugation has gained momentum over time and has won inherent inter-familial and inter-societal battles with a change in attitude among males as a proven testimony all over the male world. This paper aims to delve into Black issues through the feminist lens underlying a thorough reading of Anne Moody’s autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi: A Memoir, which has existed as a masterpiece and a classic of Black struggle with detailed passages on Black female struggle through which she successfully struggled past and secured a reputable state for Black population in American state in particular and as a motivational masterpiece for women of the whole world in general.

Key Words: anti-subjugation, Black feminism, cross racial and cross cultural, intersectionality.

AGRICULTURE: THE BACKBON OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN INDIA

DR. CHHABI

ABSTRACT

Women’s empowerment is critical to the process of the development of the community. Bringing women into the mainstream of development has been a major concern of the government since independence. Yet, despite significant steps taken by the government, the participation of women in all spheres of life varies in the context of differences in the social economic, cultural and regional factors. It is being increasingly realized that the goal of poverty all alleviation cannot be achieved without the full and active participation of women who constitute a large section of the work force in the country. In order to empower women and bring them into the mainstream, an enabling environment with requisite policies and programmes, Institutional mechanisms at various levels and adequate financial resources has been created. The Ministry of Rural Areas and Employment has special components for women in all its programmes and a certain amount of funds is earmarked as ‘women’s component’ to ensure a flow of adequate resource for women. Women empowerment can be better achieved through entrepreneurship which is an adventure to do something new or a strong desire to pursue an independent occupation. It may be an inner urge to make use of skills and talents in a positive and profitable way. The futuristic outlook and planning are the two vital attributes of an entrepreneur. Women have these two qualities by birth. Concerted effort must be put in to raise the level of women entrepreneurship in SSI. Social activists, NGOs, Government agencies and corporate sector should play an active role in the transformation of women and in driving the women to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in small scale industries.

DIGITAL EDUCATION IN INDIA – AN OVERVIEW

DR. KANAKAPPA PUJAR

ABSTRACT

The Coronavirus pandemic has shaken the entire nation and the education sector is one of the worst hit during this impending crisis. Colleges and universities have been shut for almost seven months now to curb the spread of the virus. This is a major setback for students and teachers who can no longer access learning resources through the traditional model of education. To overcome this crisis, the Government of India has taken several ICT (Information Communication Technology) initiatives through the Ministry of Education and UGC (University Grant Commission) to launch free electronic learning or e-learning platforms for students. e-Learning is expanding its horizon and provides a unique opportunity to collaborate, share knowledge and learn under a common platform. These online platforms are available for students, researchers, learners, and teachers where they can interact with each other in a classroom setting. These courses are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and contain live online lectures, course contents, quizzes, online tests, and multimedia presentations to make them more interesting for students.
