Tale-Danda occupies an important place in the
Karnad canon. In this play, Karanad deals with such issues as reflect the way
of life and the thinking of an entire community. The play communicates the
message that it is easy to go with the current as it makes no demands but it is
very difficult to go against it. Through the events in the play Karnad has portrayed
the identity between communal and caste violence, and has focused the fact that
the effects of intra-religious conflict are very similar to those of
inter-religious conflict. In Tale-Danda, Karnad highlights the most delicate
and crucial problem of caste system that has remained burning through all the
ages of the Indian history. The main reason for the defeat of Basavanna is the
lack of unity and faith. The dream of egalitarian society of the social
activists lie Basavanna cannot be transformed into reality as society in all
periods and times is divided on the basis of caste, class, colour, religion,
gender, etc.

In a world where religious beliefs reign
supreme there is one group of people that dominates the masses through their
religious dictatorship and then there exists another that submissively admits
to the dictates of the former by being extremely God fearing. This paper tries
to discover the theme of such domination in history through one of the important play Suraj ki Antim
Kiran se Suraj ki Pehli Kiran Tak (1962) written by a renowned Hindi writer,
Surendra Verma. He has writtten several novels, plays and screenplays that
exist not only in Hindi, but also in Urdu and English. This paper deals with
the supremacy of religious “Purohits” and Priests over the king and his
kingdom. It is about, how religion remains a subject which is beyond the
understanding of human beings and can only be gripped under an expert
supervision of the religious clergy, in oblivion that how the clergy can
facilitate religion according to the need of changing times. This play is about
adultery in royal household permitted by the priest and kinsman for the future
heir of the state. They arrange things for the ceremony and no one puts any objection
to such affairs; even the king himself becomes helpless to deal with it. To
these people things are quite easy going to their understanding of religion and
can be governed by introducing new rules to the righteous way of justifying
them. Ironically such kind of discriminatory innovation is meant only for the
upper class not for the lower class at all.

Nissim
Ezekiel is one of the most popular names in Indian English poetry and this
genius is known for his post-modernist approach in his poetry. As in the words
of P. Lal, “After the death of Sri Aurobindo, Nissim Ezekiel is the first major
voice that represents, more or less, the change of an era in the History of
Indian English Poetry.” In India is typical poem by Nissim Ezekiel where we
neither find rhythm nor musically. In India is a wonderful example of longing
and aspiration of the imaginative modern life that is full of absurdity and
complexes. The element of self-criticism is also evident in this poem. It also
shows the ugliness of modern life. In India, Nissim Ezekiel use different
stanzas to describe the life of Indian people and India as a whole and
therefore this poem is one of the greatest poems ever written by an Indian
poet. Nissim Ezekiel has described the condition of the parties in India where
the wives of India feel disturbed and unfit.

As
we all know Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh is one of the most influential poets in
Hindi Literature and many of his works have been translated into English due to
their popularity across the country. The Void is one such work that talks about
the horror, destruction and violence which result from extreme self-absorption
and a sense of meaningless in life. The void is not emptiness; it is stubbed
with corruption and violence. It is frighteningly aggressive and is always
demanding its domain of blood and violence. Man is a monster and therefore
there is no escape from this horrifying situation where each one of us has been
debased and dehumanized, except through more violence. Let us try to understand
in detail.

Vijay Tendulkar is the playwright who has been
famous for the treatment to the character that he gives and in doing so the
symbols are the obvious parts that he relies heavily on. The symbols used by
Tendulkar in the play Ghashiram Kotwal are mostly taken from the world of
animals. These symbols are really interesting and that is the reason why they
help the readers analyse the situation and the mind-set of the playwright. When
we come across these symbols, we can feel that these symbols have been taken
from the world that is around us and therefore we can say that the playwright
has used them in this play in its connotative way.Let us try to understand them
in the following argument.
Key words: Symbols, World of Animals, Iago, Lord Ganesh, Nana, Connotative, Prey, Hunger, Sex.

Landscape
play significant role and is an integral part of the creative consciousness of
an artist. It becomes a signifier of one's identity. The portrayal of landscape
runs as a crucial concern through diverse cultures. There are various connotations
attached to landscape in different cultures. Along with differences, there are
also similarities which bind the people into an experiential community.
Experiences and interaction with the landscape, therefore, can be viewed as
personal or individual as well as collective.
