A QUEST FOR IDENTITY IN THE NOVELS OF NAMITA GOKHALE

DR. NILESH A. TARE

ABSTRACT

Quest for identity refers to the existential struggle of a man in order to attain meaning and value in his life. It is an inward journey for existence, a search for roots and a struggle for self-expression. The loss of identity makes a person very pathetic. As a result, his voice becomes an alto in a chorus. Much writing has been done about the search of identity in the post - colonial literature. The quest for identity has now become the central theme of contemporary women’s fiction. Most of the Indian women novelists have also focused on women issues, they have a women's perspectives on the world. The quest for self-identity forms the underlying theme of most of the Indian English novelists.

SURENDER KUMAR & Dr. PAWAN KUMAR

ABSTRACT

English, as a global language, undoubtedly, enables the people to communicate cogently, keep in touch, do business, and, of course, share their cultural heritage in the modern globalized world. Barring English, no other language has gained such a recognition, especially when it comes to global communication.  In India, English is perceived as a status symbol. Even the parents who are unable to afford expensive English medium education, do aspire to send their children in such types of institutes to learn English. Thanks to the information and communication technology (ICT), that has hailed to render English teaching and learning process easily accessible to common people; the lock down during Covid Era proving to be a blessing in disguise for such learning and empowering. In the early days of technical innovations, teaching resources like audio cassettes, popular movie clips, and video clips etc. were used as excellent media to illustrate varieties of spoken English. These resources were, however, considered to be expensive and beyond the reach of common man. Now, with the integration of ELT with technology, E-learning has enabled common man to learn and communicate in English effectively; and the process, once supported with right kind of material and pedagogy under the lens of native wisdom, becomes obviously more enjoyable. Over to that the requisite knowledge and skill simulated through computers have brought a sort of revolution in human learning and emerged as an inseparable trend in Education as well as in English teaching and learning. Web-based classes have emerged as the most promising alternative to study English. Such advancements in E-Learning are providing opportunities to create well-designed, learner-centered, interactive, affordable, efficient, and flexible learning. Needless to emphasize, E-learning, today, has truly hailed to contribute to a plethora of new possibilities in ELT. The very process is, however, not, at all, without its own challenges which, of course, need to be taken care of. I have, through this research paper, tried to undertake an assessment of these emerging trends of E-Learning, and its impact on teaching and learning of English language.

POWER PLAY IN THE VIJAY TENDULKAR’S KANYADAAN

Prof. SATISH HARIT & RAMSUKH

ABSTRACT

Might is right is an age old saying. Despite so much progress of human civilization, human beings exercise various forms of power structures to dominate other, especially on the bases of gender, caste and class. Equality is still a Utopian ideal. Vijay Tendulkar is a very close observer and perceptive critic of Indian society. In his plays he has presented the realistic picture of Indian society which keeps looking backward even while moving forward. In his play Kanyadaan he has highlighted the fact that woman is the worst sufferer in a patriarchal society. Jyoti, the female lead of this play, has to suffer inhuman cruelty and violence from her husband Arun Athavale, a dalit poet and writer whom she marries out of her own misconceived notions of a socialist to abolish caste system by marrying a dalit. She is a victim of her father’s impractical social reformer’s idealism which he wants to experiment at the cost of his own daughter’s life by provoking and supporting her in inter caste marriage without ever having put his idealism to the acid test of the social realities.

A PSYCHOANALYTICAL APPROACH OF THE PORTRAYAL OF THE CHARACTER RUPA MEHRA IN AN ADAPTATION OF A SUITABLE BOY (NETFLIX SERIES) BASED ON THE NOVEL BY VIKRAM SETH

SEHNAZ KHUSHROW IRANI & DR. RANI SARODE

ABSTRACT

This Research Paper delves into the psychoanalytic aspects of the Netflix series adaptation of Vikram Seth’s “A Suitable Boy”. The study aims to uncover the underlying psychological motivations, conflicts and dynamics of the character Rupa Mehra played by Mahira Kakkar in the adaptation. We will dive into her character and its interactions with the others in the story using the many theories and themes as put forward by the psychoanalytic school of thought. While many often attribute this to Freuds theories we will be focusing on a more varied approach specifically linked to female study as the character is portrayed as an era appropriate widowed mother in 1950’s post partition India. Over all the portrayal is quite unique and true to class matching itself with most findings of the mentality matching with a mother figure of those times. A true testament to her art, Mahira Kakkar has provided a full immersion into the role and its various dogmas giving the viewer an uncensored taste of Rupa Mehra.
