This article is an attempt to
lay focus on Somerset Maugham’s narrative skill and his depiction of truth and
human nature in his works and he has created new combinations of characters and
events are presented in a crystal clear manner through his writings. He has
shown his mettle in his writing style with clarity, simplicity and euphony, he
by analyzing such themes as God, love, hatredness, wealth, pride and also deals
with philosophical thought in a stylistic way.

This paper is an attempt to
present William Saroyan’s dramatic skill in creating the characters who crosses
the borders with a hopeful heart. Analyzing the plays written by Saroyan, it is
shown how he proved the possibility of living from extracting the courage and
spirit from the soul. He compares the hopeful hearts with wandering clouds
which easily crossed the horizons in the sky. The themes and plot constructions
of Saroyan reveal that he was motivated by the study of humanistic psychology and
the dynamic potential for self-actualization. Thus, this paper portrays how he
eliminated the problems and the element of tension through his plays.

This paper
projects Sri Aurobindo as a poetic creator of supreme originality, whose
creations are the beacon lights for the intellectual society and his writing
creates the emergence of super mind to control over the thought and action. The
greatness of a work of art depends not only on the poet, but on the spiritual,
intellectual aesthetic tradition and environment.

This paper
evidently projects the aesthetic vision of Virginia Woolf by displaying her
fantasy of life through her novels; bringing home the point that there is
concrete order and selection in her novels, whereas form and pattern are
imposed by her vision of life and shows how she wants to paint a real picture of
life with her own vision of ultimate beauty of life and emphasises on Woolf’s
delight in beauty that makes her acutely conscious of the frailty and
transience of life attesting to the fact that life-fleeting and changing like a
cloud which results in sadness and bewilderment. Anyhow, she has succeeded in
imposing form and order in her novels step by step.

This paper
examines Jayanta Mahapatra’s conception of poetry and treatment of themes
depicting the various images of women by bringing out the themes of love, sex,
death, exploitation, male-lust and loneliness which occupy the major part of
his poetry. It also describes poverty and the sufferings of the people especially
treatment of women as victims of lust and love in a patriarchal society
imparting tragic touch to Mahapatra’s poetry.
