ERNEST HEMINGWAY AS A NOVELISTOF CLASSICAL NOVELIST

ABSTRACT

Ernest Hemingway is one of the representative writers of the twentieth century mainly dealt with the portrayal of the shock experienced after the two world wars. Writers started looking beyond the borders of democracy analysing certainties and uncertainties arising out of the war American social philosophy was making rational inquiry and reforming. Traditional gentility, provincialism and middle class values began to get replaced by styles and themes. Environment and ethnicity unravel psyche of the society surrounded by forces reshaping individual lives.

SENIOR CITIZENS AND OLD AGE HOMES: A STUDY TO UNDERSTAND PROMINENT REASONS FOR WOMEN TO CHOOSE OLD AGE HOMES AS AN ALTERNATIVE LIVING CHOICE

ABSTRACT

As per the Indian tradition, families have been described to provide social security to old age members of the family.  Today changing family structure is causing increased problems of old age people.  Emerging prevalence of nuclear families in recent years is causing psychological, physical insecurities and problems to old people.  So, the options of alternative livings are chosen.  Old age home refers to homes that are meant for Senior Citizens who were unable to stay with their family and act as an alternative living option.  Alternative living refers to living in an alternative way i.e., by making an alteration in one’s current living conditions.  Due to the emergence of nuclear family senior Citizens are forced to go to these Old Age Homes. The number of increasing old age homes in India are a proof that many senior citizens are shifting over there and researchers are trying to find the cause behind it.  This paper focuses on knowing what women between the age of 50 to 70 think of Old Age Homes as an alternative living choice and what could be the possible reasons for a woman in specific to choose an Old Age Home as an alternative living choice.  Many previous researches have been done to understand the reasons but this paper in specific only focuses on women reasons on choosing Old Age Homes as an alternative living choice.  Mostly the paper focuses on understanding are emotional reasons or factors that make women to choose Old Age Home as an alternative Living option and what do women think of old age homes as alternative living choice? This research was conducted using in depth interview methods with the help of Emotionality Questionnaire.  (1999 older people’s health survey Questionnaire).
